Form. 398ff.), either direct from εἰλέω `turn, wind' or through an unknown noun. Initial εἰ- from the present (cf. 2. εἰλέω); a prothet. ἐ- (Solmsen Unt. 243f. as alternative) is superfluous. On ἰλ- for εἰλ- cf. ἴλη. - See 2. εἰλέω. Uncertain is Toch. B wai walau `vertigo' (two words?), s. v.
